Description

Unitronic® is pleased to announce its High-Flow Performance Downpipe for the 2017-2020 8V.2 Audi® RS 3® and 2018-2022 8S TT RS® equipped with the 2.5TFSI EVO (DAZA) engine. This downpipe is a direct bolt-on upgrade, designed to optimally eliminate unwanted restrictions in the factory downpipe, reduce turbo lag, and enhance the exhaust note, while utilizing a 5” ultra high output catalytic converter, designed exclusively for Unitronic, from our emissions partners at Global Emissions Systems Inc (GESi). GESi’s ultra-high output catalytic converter is engineered to meet or exceed emissions standards.

Consistent with all of its performance products, Unitronic utilizes industry leading tools, equipment and computer aided design software, packed with the latest technology from our partners at Creaform® and Stratasys®. Combined, these tools and technologies are an immense resource, helping Unitronic achieve a design that not only optimizes airflow, but eliminates restrictions, while fitting perfectly in the constraints.

At Unitronic, development begins with setting the objectives; performance, efficiency, aesthetics and quality. Operations start with 3D scanning the engine bays, exhaust tunnels and OEM components with it’s in-house Creaform 3D scanner. Once 3D scan data has been collected and processed, Unitronic Hardware Engineers then interact with the 3D models to identify fitment constraints, mounting locations, other component locations, etc. to ensure the final product fits perfectly within the “envelope”, while achieving the objectives and intent of the product.

As the initial designs develop; evolution begins with rapid prototyping, utilizing its in-house Stratasys 3D printer. Within hours, Unitronic Engineers are able to have a printed prototype, allowing for test fitments to be performed on the vehicle, and other data to be collected to further validate the designs. Unitronic engineers studied what the Engineers at Audi® had intended for the stock unit. The first aspect considered, was how to make it more efficient, yet effective. The design is in context with the OEM system to be consistent with the calibration models developed by Audi.

Unitronic Engineers further validated designs to ensure the Downpipe yields the results intended with functional prototypes created , while also working together with GESi through several iterations of their G-Sport Emissions Systems Catalytic Converter to ensure the product meets or exceeds emissions standards.

As with the original design, Unitronic also utilized the 1-to-2 split design. Following Audi’s® modeling, Unitronic developed a large high-flow cast stainless steel downturn, increasing cross-sectional area, effectively improving flow and decreasing back pressure. Part of the design criteria was to maintain un-biased flow between the runners. Flow through the large catalytic converter aids with flow distribution; and as a result, pressure and exhaust velocity are balanced to maintain efficiency and the distinct sound of the turbocharged 5-cylinder engine. The post-cat cast stainless steel transition continues, allowing for a smooth transition and flow distribution into dual 70mm T304 stainless steel tubing with OEM-style corrugated mesh flex bellows.

Unitronic’s pursuit for perfection is applied even in the most minute areas of product design and in this case, Unitronic identified that allowing for ample tolerance for engine movement on an item that is both affixed to a dynamic engine and a rigid chassis. Rather than using traditional flex bellow, Unitronic opted for an OE-style mesh flex, to ensure optimal range of motion is allowed. This offers a superior amount of flexibility over a traditional aftermarket-style flex section, while still offering the rigidity and strength to be highly reliable on the 2.5TFSI EVO engines.

In order to facilitate the installation of this High-Flow Performance Downpipe for the 8V.2 RS 3 and 8S TT RS, Unitronic developed a Drive Shaft Removal Clamp which can be used in conjunction with a slide hammer to easily remove the vehicle's drive shaft for additional clearance.

Not as direct bolt-on as advertised for the 2017 TT...

Needed to cut 2.5 inches off of both the supplied reducer and muffler pipe to get this to fit correctly. Other than that it looks great...not sure how I like the sound yet...

  • Review shared from Unitronic Gen 3 3" Downpipe - w/Cat (1.8/2.0 TSI FWD)

I ordered this Downpipe in a hurry as I had already order my Unitronic Stage 2 tune, and had bought a used downpipe that ended up having a leak. I installed this downpipe in my driveway with hand tools in about 3 hours, by myself. It's a straight forward installation, and the quality of Unitronic's downpipe is excellent! I love my Jetta GLI being at Stage 2 power/torque and this downpipe sounds great at cold start and in upper RPM's; though it tough to hear over the turbo spooling!

Unitronic threw two extra 3" sealing rings into my box as well, which was nice as they are just thin aluminum. This pipe fit perfectly and did not require any custom modification to install.

  • Review shared from Unitronic 3" Downpipe & Test Pipe - w/Cat (09-16 A4, 10-17 A5)

    Enthusiast of style and speed

Let's start with the sound..... Just incredible. Deep and refined.
Having seen many exhaust options from the aftermarket, I truly believe that the fit and finish of the Unitronic high-flow cat and downpipe are of the highest quality. Being an aircraft mechanic I can appreciate the addition of v-band style connections that are a proven solution for joining piping being both leak free and secure.
Now I'm ready for APR Stage II

    Vw gti

Put this on my 2009 gti tsi. I could tell the difference from stock. It's a nice down pipe and was easy to install. Took around 3-4 hrs on installation. Running it with stock muffler. Worth the money.

  • Review shared from Unitronic 3" Downpipe - w/Cat (2.0L TSI FWD)

    12 VW GLI Gen1 2.0T

Great product from Unitronic, Hardest part was getting the top bolt closest to the block on the factory downpipe. Loosened it from the top side using a 16mm box end wrench and then used a 16mm socket with an extension fend in from the driver side near the master cylinder to finish taking the nut off. I would also recommend picking up a factory turbo gasket, i picked one up at the local parts store for $10 bucks. Unitronic downpipe was easy to install once the factory stuff was out of the way. Have the stage 2 tune so no CEL issues and noticed a big increase in power and smoothness from the stage 1+.

  • Review shared from Unitronic 3" Downpipe w/Cat (16-18 Jetta 1.4T)

    2017 Jetta 1.4T

Great downpipe! I also have a cold air intake installed. After installing the downpipe the intake is now louder. The downpipe did not make much noise difference itself with the stock exhaust but there is a slight difference. However, there is a great difference in power and torque. It does pull a CEL without the stage 2 tune for the O2 sensors but the tune clears that. I would definitely recommend this product.

    Great add on!

I just installed this on my 2016 last weekend. Install was a pain. I wouldn’t do it again but the finished result is amazing. I had the 1+ tune before and the stage 2 with this pipe is quite a bit quicker. The sound is a lot meaner. Can’t wait to surprise some people at green lights!

  • Review shared from Unitronic 3" Downpipe - w/Cat (2.0L TSI FWD)

    3” Uni Downpipe

Bought this downpipe/mid pipe kit and love it. Coupled with the Uni intake and stage 2 tune my car feels twice as fast. Cannot believe the torque gains from the tune. But the exhaust I love because it’s not too loud. I’m not one for loud exhausts and I feel this pipe fits right in the middle. Super easy to install

  • Review shared from Unitronic 3" Downpipe - FWD w/Cat (15-21 GTI, 19+ GLI)

    Great gains, great engine response

Installation was a cinch. Getting the stock downpipe off, however, was not. There was zero room to work with! It helps to have a spotter on top while you work underneath the car. Performance gains are very nice over stage 1. It now pulls all the way to redline, and turbo lag is much less apparent. Also, looks good, but unassuming, with a nice brushed stainless finish. Since there's no Unitronic logo all over the top half, it looks almost stock from the engine bay. Welds are nice. The Unitronic stamp on the subframe mount is a nice touch. The excellent v band system means no exhaust leaks. This is worth the price for the excellent fitment.

  • Review shared from Unitronic 3" Downpipe - FWD w/Cat (15-21 GTI, 19+ GLI)

    Easy install, amazing gains

Getting the factory downpipe off wasn't easy, but getting this one installed was a piece of cake. The gains were substantial and immediately noticeable. On my 2019 Jetta GLI, the sound isn't much louder than stock, to be honest. I was expecting louder, but I still have the stock catback. Make sure you have a spotter to assist in removing the factory downpipe.

    Unitronic 3” Downpipe

I couldn’t be happier with the quality and most importantly the fit of the Unitronic Downpipe. The install was about 4 hours from start to finish. I also went from Stage 1+ Unitronic ECU tune to Stage 2 after the Downpipe was installed. The increased performance is the largest difference I’ve seen or felt out of all the modifications I’ve done so for to my 2013 Mk6 GTI. It really is like driving a different car. This Downpipe is without a doubt of the highest quality and, as I previously stated, the fit is “OEM good”. Thank you Unitronic and Moddedeuros!

  • Review shared from Unitronic 3" Downpipe - w/Cat (2.0L TSI FWD)

Took a while but i got it done

I purchased the Unitronic Downpipe for my 2013 Volkswagen CC Sport , it took me around 4 hours to install. not that it was hard just my first time doing something of this nature. everything went smooth until i had to connect the down pipe to my stock catback exhaust the adapter it comes with to allow you to do that was to long so i had to cut my exhaust about a inch and a half for it to fit and allow me to use the stcock clamps it came with .

  • Review shared from Unitronic Gen 3 3" Downpipe - w/Cat (1.8/2.0 TSI FWD)

    Very impressed

Just want to say I am very impressed with this downpipe. It took the shop hour or hour and half to put on. Had enough clearance, and the shop guy said it went very smooth. Also no check engine light so fair, so that made me happy.

    Still great product

After a few hours of driving and no check engine light, I guess the computer felt something different and has thrown the light 😂😂😂

    Car Enthusiast

At first It was a little loud, Atleast to my exceptions considering it was Catted, but after tying my car to the stage 2 Unitronic burble tune I fell in love instantly. The car sounds great, burbles likes crazy (which I guess depends on ur preference) but I have zero complaints. Even if you want to run the stage 2 file without burbles you will have very moderate burbles but it’s not to complain about. Would definitely buy again and very happy with the way my A3 sounds. Don’t fall for the catless gimmicks because this sounds just as good but doesn’t case a gas smelly cabin and you can run through state inspection just fine.
