Description
CTS Turbo is proud to announce its Short Shift Kit for the MK4-MK7 6-speed family.
With adjustable throw reduction between 20% and 35%, this kit greatly improves the feel over the stock setup with a more positive and precise engagement. Side-to-side movement is not reduced; gear shifts feel familiar and chances for mis-shift are not increased.
CNC machined in-house from a solid piece of billet T6061 aluminum and anodized in shiny black; it is guaranteed to not corrode. They went a step further and made the gear selector insert out of steel to make sure the shifter functions flawlessly for a lifetime.

Crisp and Clean
This is what the shifter should’ve felt like from factory on an MK7 GLI rather simple install; if you’re taking the OEM shifter off for the first time it is a pain but it does come off eventually. Would highly recommend and totally worth the price!

Great, but...
From the beginning, this kit was extremely easy to install. Torqued to spec (17NM) and no issues at all. However, going down the road and a few hundred miles of city driving, I noticed a little extra slop in my shifts. Going into my engine bay I come to find that the shifter was loose and was slipping teeth! It ate away at my gear selector and now even my stock shifter fits loose from what was tight initially for both of them. I believe this was due to the construction of the shifter being aluminum and over time it rubbing and wearing stripping the teeth on both the selector and the shifter itself. $500 later in new parts for the selector and new shifter, I now have an APR short shifter for a few months now and it is perfect. In the end, I learned a valuable lesson, you get what you pay for!

Easy to install and makes the shifts feel so tight and short

Feels incredible but be careful
I installed the short throw shifter with the CTS Turbo billet endlink bushings on my MK7 GTI and the shifter feel is amazing. Short and very crisp. Extremely good engagement and no extra NVH. Throws are very short and sporty at the 35%.
The one caveat however is that when putting the nut back on the gear selector shaft be very careful not to snap the threads off. It's very easy since it seems to be made of aluminum. I used a torque wrench to make sure that I didn't go over the recommended torque spec (25 nm) and still managed to snap off the threads. The repair cost me just over $700 and if you'll need to have the car towed.
